High-End Television Tax Relief

You will be able to claim for this incentive if your company is subject to Corporation Tax. This incentive supports companies by offering a reduction in Corporation Tax liability or payable tax credit, however, the form in which you receive your benefit depends on certain qualifying factors and whether you are profit or loss-making.

High-End Television Tax Relief Eligibility Criteria

The programme that you are trying to claim relief on must be made with the intention of broadcast, it does not matter whether this is on television or online, and the broadcasting time must be of 30 minutes or longer.
Your production must have a cost of at least £1m per hour of broadcast.
You must hold a certificate accredited by the British Film Institute (BFI).
Your programme genre must fall under comedy, documentary or drama to be eligible for the relief.

  • You must be responsible for ‘core costs’ which by HMRC are defined as:
    • Pre-production
    • Post-production
    • Principal photography
  • Your company must also pay for
    • Rights
    • Goods
